Dental filling is one the most straightforward ways of tooth restoration and can be used when tooth decay or the trauma to a tooth hasn’t removed too much of its original structure. We usually make dental fillings from either composite resin that can be applied directly to the tooth, or we will make them from porcelain. We make these restorations in our on-site dental laboratory. Composite resin is a hard wearing material and it comes in an enormous range of different shades. Our dentists are highly experienced at picking the right combination of colors to exactly match your natural tooth. The result should be a hard wearing filling that should last for quite a few years.
We use porcelain fillings to repair larger areas of decay as porcelain is stronger and longer lasting. Also, it is more suitable for larger cavities that come under quite a bit of pressure when you chew food. Although a little more expensive than composite resin fillings, porcelain fillings should last for many years. These fillings are a great way to restore and preserve your natural teeth.
Crowns – Restorative Dental Treatment for Badly Damaged Teeth
Crowns are suitable for teeth that have been quite badly damaged and where a substantial part of their original structure is missing. We can fabricate the most beautiful dental crowns using a number of different materials. If the tooth is right at the back of the mouth and there is very little room, we may suggest you have a crown made from gold alloy. This is because gold is quite soft and will not harm your opposing teeth. It is perfect if you have quite a tight bite. We can also make crowns from porcelain fused to metal and where lifelike porcelain covers a metal substructure.
The most advanced dental crowns are all ceramic and do not contain any metal whatsoever. These can the made from zirconia, a very special and extremely strong type of porcelain, or they can be milled from a solid block of porcelain using the very latest 3-D technology. These milled crowns are the only crowns that can be made while you wait. They are strong and beautiful and in no way compromise on aesthetics. Not surprisingly, this is an increasingly popular option amongst patients and it can be a useful technique in a number of different situations. Tooth Restoration with Root Canal Therapy
We frequently use root canal therapy to save and restore teeth that have become badly infected. This can occur if you have untreated tooth decay or if your tooth has suffered some other trauma that has allowed bacteria to get right into its center where the pulp of the tooth is situated. Often a badly infected tooth can be pretty painful because the pulp contains lots of nerves. Root canal treatment will help you feel much more comfortable by getting rid of pain and discomfort.
Root canal therapy clears out the infection affecting the pulp in the very central part of your tooth and the tissues and nerves extending into the root canals in the roots of your teeth. It is an intricate process as it’s important to make sure all the infection is completely removed. This restorative dental treatment does require several visits. First we will need to diagnose the problem before treating the tooth. After the tooth has been disinfected and cleaned, it is often temporarily sealed just to make sure the infection doesn’t recur.
Once we are sure the tooth is free from infection, we will permanently restore it, usually with a dental crown. If you do need root canal therapy, there really isn’t any need to worry that treatment will be painful, as it shouldn’t feel much different from having an ordinary filling. It is the only option for saving an infected tooth as otherwise we would have to extract it. We would always far rather treat and restore your natural teeth, with tooth extraction being our last choice.
